The Need for the Educational Approach of Maharishi Vedic University

A fundamental principle of the University is that only by providing knowledge and experience of consciousness can education be complete. Knowledge of the object alone, without knowledge of the knower, will never be satisfying, because without the experience of the very basis of knowledge -- the Unified Field of knower, process of knowing, and known -- knowledge will always appear fragmented and separate from the knower. Without the experience of total Natural Law in their own awareness, the students may become experts in one limited area of Natural Law, but the rest of life will remain unknown and beyond control. Within every human being is the natural tendency and capacity to live wholeness of life -- to be fully awake and aware of the holistic quality of life while applying all the specific laws of nature to accomplish one's goals. As long as both holistic and specific capacities are not actualized, whatever graduates know will seem small compared with what they do not know. And the knowledge they do have will not suffice to bring them out of mistakes in life. It is incomplete development of the human mind that has produced the conception of a normal person as one who makes mistakes, has problems, falls sick, and is at the mercy of circumstances. Maharishi's Vedic Science and Technology brings to light that when the total potential of Natural Law is awake in human awareness, life can be lived in fulfillment, free from mistakes and problems. This is the goal of education offered by Maharishi Vedic University. Higher Education for Higher Consciousness Maharishi Vedic University holds that higher education should be for higher consciousness. Higher states of consciousness, as described by the Vedic Literature, are characterized by complete alertness and spontaneous use of one's full mental potential; command over one's destiny, with the organizing power to accomplish any worthy goal without strain; a spontaneously nourishing, life-supporting effect on everyone and everything; and the quality of bliss and wholeness pervading one's existence. Such an individual is a professional even before learning a profession -- able to function effectively in any situation. Such individuals, by virtue of their comprehensive intelligence, wisdom, and compassion, are naturally leaders in their chosen areas of activity. They elevate the quality and standards of their professions and contribute most profoundly to the well-being of society.
